Handmade Textile art and jewellery inspired by the coastline of North West Scotland

The very wee shop here at An Cois Na Mara has some new handmade lovelies thanks to the national Covid 19 lock down.

As we closed the b&b & kept our fingers crossed that it wouldn’t be for too long we contemplated the projects that would keep us busy for the foreseeable future so when not out walking locally or completing new structures in the garden i spent many a happy hour creating. Having a well stocked supplies cupboard certainly saved the day.

Making & creating is my happy place and i have a soft spot for all things textile. I spent the winter of 2019/20 designing and sewing together my waders & seabird wall hangings in a wonderful mix of patterned cottons and linens with added embellishments. On finishing these i moved onto embroidered linen bracelets with gunmetal clasps – oh i love these, i wish i had the time to make a different one for every day of the year!! Then came the Rock pool inspired bookmarks, textile, bead & button versions of the beautiful sea anemones, hermit crabs, pebbles & shells of treasured rock pools.

Once the bead box reared it’s little head along came the jewellery

Sunset over the Minch earrings & necklaces on hemp cord – hand felted wool balls representing the numerous shades of the sunset over the Minch.
Sea urchin earrings & necklaces – crocheted circles of rock pool treasures.
Pebble earrings – representing the incredible array of colours & shapes of the local pebbles my hand embroidered felt earrings are stitched with cotton thread & tiny beads.
Beaded necklaces on hemp cord – these long pretty necklaces are lovely for a casual beach combing type of day.

And last but certainly not least is my posse of Hamish’s, needle felted Hairy coo’s all ready for winter in their little knitted fair isle style coats with scarves. Awww.
